I went to the OCMA to check out some art. The Artist Talk was at three o’clock. An African-American artist from Los Angeles talked about woven cloth and acrylic art. They looked like cultural blankets. Diedrick Brackens was interviewed about his art for an hour. The room was full and attentive. Afterwards, I went downstairs to check out artwork in the museum. I noticed lots of beaded work. The beaded-covered doorway was fun, as well as more beaded blankets. There seemed to be lots of blankets in this art exhibit as well as artwork made from fabric. There was another interesting art sculpture mounted on a wall, which is made of landfill computer materials — keyboard keys, other computer parts, and old toothbrushes. There was a carpet of candy pieces placed together on the ground. Before I came close to it, I really did think it was an interesting carpet. I read the wall description nearby for it, and it stated “Please take only one.” I decided to take one, just to be interactive with the artwork. There were also some paintings. There was a huge sand area, covered with military toys, which have to do with this world’s obsession with war.
